Early on while reading this post, I thought the same thing I think Roger referred to. I can only assume Don does not rely on placing his guides from measurements off a guide chart but rather static tests for precise placement. After static testing, if the faulty tape measure is used to measure the spacing and then referred to later while wrapping, everything will remain the same and the spacing will be fine. It is simply a constant. All bets are off if another tape is also used.
Working at a glass shop back in the 70s, I suggested they use the SAME L-square to measure-out the job on site as when cutting the glass or mirror at the shop to eliminate the fitting problems they were plagued with. I got a big Christmas bonus that year! Didn’t matter if the L-square was 1inch out as long as it was used to both measure the opening and cutting as well.
But thanks, Don, that is extremely good to know for anyone with a yellow tape. Am I guessing correctly you threw it away?
