I started painting the pistol grip pac bay foam cores this past weekend. I noticed quickly that the surface doesnt let the epoxy/paint mixture adhere to it too well. I scuffed it a bit to get the epoxy to stick to it. That seemed to work a little better, but not as good as I had hoped. I have the final clear coat of epoxy drying now. It worked overall, just a bit more care with it than i expected to get the whole surface covered.

Anyone else paint the pac bay foam cores with better success?

I've painted the hard black Pac Bay reel seat shims, that what you're talking about? I just spray them with any color fast dry hardware store paint, two coats at least, maybe three, then coat with wrap epoxy, two or three coats. When painting, I hang them from bent paper clips, trying to get the paint to all surfaces, which usually takes two or more coats. Keep them thin to avoid droops.

Im talking about the foam grips. I havent used any spray paint on any rod components as of yet. If I use these again, I might have to give it a try.

Do you have the unfinished foam core, or the foam core with the soft touch finish? I would imagine that soft touch finish is not a good surface for paint adherence.

I have the unfinished foam core. It took several coats and some prepping of the surface but it did come out pretty good. The depth of the finish because of the multiple coats is pretty cool looking with the different swirls on the different levels
