Fuji PTS with carbon sleeve insert

Hello everyone,

We are making a build using the PTS reel seat for the first time. Interested to hear from those that have built a rod using that seat if they buffed the ends of the insert (the parts that do not show through the windows) to a water break free surface or not before they epoxied it to the seat?

Thanks,
Gib

Father to William (15 yrs), who I hope has found his passion in custom rod building!

I scuffed it up with scotchbrite, but do not know if that was strictly necessary. It may be just habit, but that's a good habit to have, in my opinion.

I used 200 grit on the ends and it has a very good bond. My thoughts on the seat is that I really like the shape but am not too keen on the insert. My main reason is weight and the other is size. I think it is too big, the shape seems to be ergonomic though. I think it would be a much better seat if it was made to the blank diameter like the ACS or the ECSM seats without the insert especially with Fuji Point Blank blanks butt diameter. Fuji are you listening?

What don't you like with the ACS or the ECSM seats without the insert ? About the only Fuji reel seats, I really like and use personally are the TVS spin seats, Lately I have built a Few Detroit and St.Clair River Jigging rods with the Seaguide XCSS seats. We are only running 1.5 inch long insert on the rear Exposed ports only, Leaving the port under the reel Exposed for the rod blank, The reel seats themselves come in at 28 grams or 1 oz, Complete. The guys using them are Palming their reels and are Loving them so far, [sea-guide.com] Cheers and Tight Lines Jaa
