Extending a blank

Hey folks. I'm looking at extending an NFC MB664 three inches. Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much this will speed up the blank? How about power? Will it increase the power, and about how much? Here's the specs.
ERN 19.88
AA 67.8
These specs are about perfect for what I'm after, so I hope it won't affect the blank too much.

I doubt that it will be a marked difference to the action as your only moving the the position of the center of the reel by 1 1/2 inches a minimal transfer of weight forward or backward JMHO

Like Matt said, your only making the blank 4.5% longer and only a fraction of that will be affecting the action.

The action will become a tad faster and the blank slightly more powerful.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was getting at. I'm just unsure as to how much. Less than 10%? If I fished this blank build exactly the same, but extended one 3 inches, would I likely even notice a difference?

Mark

If you keep the distance from reel seat to the tip the same and add 3 inches to the rear grip there will be no change in the action. If the distance from the reel seat to the tip is extended 3 inches there will be a change in the action however the change will be so slight that you will have to put in a lot of effort to notice it.

I do not think it is worth the effort to make it longer unless you need a longer rear grip.

Good luck

John

Mark,
There is one blank on the market that is a wonderful blank for certain types of walleye fishing. The blank is 6'3".

I have extended many of them to either 6'6" or 6'8".

Whether I build it in the shorter or one of the longer lengths, I keep the handle length the same at 8 inches.

When casting the additional inches make a difference in casting length possible with the longer lengths. Also, some folks prefer the longer lengths when setting the hook.

I have never concerned myself with the blank whether it is faster/slower more or less powerful.

I am just very happy with any of the lengths that I build it to be a really excellent walleye fishing rod.

Be safe
