Bushido BP76200 Tuna Popping

Hi,
I'm looking to build a Tuna popping rod using Bushido BP76200 blank and pared with a Penn Torque II 7500. The blank is 7' 6" looking to use Fuji Tangle free KWSG guides with a layout of 40 25 16 16 16 tip 16. Any thoughts on the layout would be appreciated.
Thanks
Bruno

Are you using #16 because you are using a wind on leader? What test braid and leader are you using? You might be able to use #12 running guide.

12s should be big enough for wind-ons unless they are huge. I would suggest you tie your largest connection and pass it through a 10 & 12...go with the smallest that will pass.

Hi,
I was going to use either 65 or 80# braid and 130 wind-on. I thought the 16s were on the large end but I compared it to my friend's Black Hole rod of the same size and his guides are 40 30 25 20 16. The Black Hole was built using standard spinning guides not the newer concept guides.
Thanks
Bruno

Bruno...for that leader connection I'd suggest you use a hollow core spectra and splice the 130# into it. The Chinese handcuff is commonly used...and you don't have to worry about a bulky knot. It's 100% strong as well.

I would follow Jays suggestion and tie the knot you will use and pass it through guides to see what is best. You can buy different sizes or use your own rods or a friend's rods to test.

Bruno, on my heavy popping rods I use 16s because I run a mono twisty shock leader between my braid and fluorocarbon leader. On the lighter rods I don't use the twisty and us a FG knot and size12 guides are fine.
