Hi there,
I'm putting new guide on a old fiberglass rod to try it as a downrigger rod. The rod seem to be a light power(maybe too light...we'll see soon). I like to play with fish and dont like to "winch" them onboard. I'll target spring salmon on lake Ontario and lake trout on other lake later this summer. I bought some minima guide and I wondering if I need to underwrap the guide or not. The point in favor of the underwrap are : - May protect the blank from the feet of the guide(remember rod would be constantly under pressure) - Pretty - Stronger(not sure about that one) Point agains or in favor of no underwrap - Make the rod heavier - Simple and easy for my first time wrap - useless Comments will be appreciate kindly ___________________ David Boudreau, Quebec, Canada New to rod building, love to learn and fish hard I'm a frenchy, so be kindly :) Re: Downrigger rod with minima - underwrap or not?

If you do a proper job of guide preparation, no underwrap is necassary on any rod you'll need on the lakes. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
