This product is not meant to be used on flexible substrates. We recommend it be used on hard rigid surfaces only. If the surface is too flexible, it could crack, chip, or peel.

Maybe I should rephrase...most frequently recommended. In all my searches, I consistently see people recommending Krylon Fusion, which Mudhole sells (or did) as "Custom Rod Building Blank Paint."

In this video, dude man is holding a can of fusion saying it has a flex agent in it. Krylon's own website says it's not meant to be flexible.

Bob, I have no idea. I don't work for Krylon, I'm just quoting from their website.

I'm not defending or attacking its ability to color a blank, I've never used it. Just thought y'all would find it interesting.

Oops, have some longterm rods out there with the stuff on them, no returns yet. Used the clear with small sparkles in it.

I don't see that ingredient listed on the paint can and only the manufacturer would have that information. However, rod blanks don't flex much per inch even in a pretty deep flex. Enamels can take some flex before a problem occurs. I wouldn't automatically panic if I'd painted a rod with this product.

I too contacted Krylon via their website and got the EXACT same message you did. So prior to putting this paint on an ice blank (solid fiberglass power noodle, VERY flexible) I had one of my Pro Sraffers take a completed ice rod, painted with several coats of Krylon Fusion, and clear coated. We put the rod upright in a drinking glass, and then hung a weight on the tip top and set it outside in the sun for several weeks. This put an extreme bend in the blank. Once a day he would change the position of the bend of the rod. We were trying to crack the paint and clear coat. After multiple weeks the paint did not crack. Perfect condition. We did however de-laminate the blank from the extreme stress. So yes, that paint works fine.

Cool, what kind of clear did you use?

I used the fusion on a few ice rods...the finish wasn't the greatest but Rustoleum Ultra Cover 2x works extremely well
