Retail stores breakage/contribute bin

I read this on another topic but it wasn't part of the original topic so Im starting a new thread.

Someone mentioned the 'contribute bin' at stores where they were able to get rods from. I wasnt quite sure how this was possible and if someone could expand on the topic. My original thought was that it is junk that a retail store might throw out because of broken products and such.

Ken,
It is dependent on the store.

Some stores carry a bin in the fishing rod department for folks who own fishing rods and no longer have a use for them to drop them off in the bin. Normally these rods are then sent to the salvation army, good will or similar places for a contribution.
But, generally, these same stores will give some of these rods to folks who have a desire for the rods to assist them with a project as well. One would just have to talk to the store manager of a store that had such a bin.

Take care

I pick up "throwaway" rods from my customers all the time. If they are 1/2 way decent, I replace broken guides, repair handle assemblies, clean and wax and donate to the Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education program that teaches folks, young and old how to fish. They then give them out as free raffle prizes after their teaching sessions. I donated one of mine own personal, little used, custom rods and they used that as a grand prize for one of the fishing derbies that they run each year. Old rods that are not worth fixing become a free source for guides for future rod repairs. Saves my repair customers a dollar or two.

retail stores on broken rod's for the most part it will be a tax right off on broken rod's that are returned , so they need a non profit number to get the credit for TAX's right off
they need all the help they can get to stay in business as I see it , just like day old food from the stores go to the local food bank [ some new also ]
