Putting new guides of a bamboo rod. One of my tip
sections has a curve in it, Where do I place the guides, on top of the curve or on the curved side. Thanks. Re: Guide Placement Bamboo

You want the rod to point "up" when in the fishing position.

Better to straighten the cane. Easy to do especially if the guides are not on it. Warm the bamboo over boiling hot water until it is flexible (it will surprise you how flexible it gets without braking the bonds between strips). Once warm roll evenly on a flat surface - granite counter tops are great for this since they cool the bamboo at the same time as straightening. Once the bamboo has cooled it will remain straight.
You could also use a low temp heat gun - but more care need be taken to not break the glue bonds - especially if the glue is "old style" animal hide glue Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/05/2017 10:35AM by Ken Preston. Re: Guide Placement Bamboo

I am with Ken on this! Best to straighten the tip before adding the guides. As he explained it is easy to do. A hair dryer may also be used, but as he states DO NOT over heat it !! Re: Guide Placement Bamboo
