Unkown reel seat part

I have these "things" for reel seats. The are 4.5 inches long, plastic/graphite material and have a thread and a groove like for a channel lock hood for 60% of the length. On one end that does not have threads they have a cut out about 1/8" wide and 1.5 inches long. I showed them to a friend of mine who knows about reel seats and he has not a clue what these are for. I guess I cant post a picture, so from the description ( vague I know) can anyone shed some light on these.

Thanks

Bob

Most likely some sort of blank butt ferrule designed for a particular seat chuck.

Here's a link: [www.rodbuilding.org]

They look like unfinished reelseat barrels, missing the attached hoods.

Take care,

Chris

I figured out what they, junk for sure. They are part of a reel seat but not wasting anymore time on my part or the guys on the forum trying to find an answer, off to the garbage can.

Thanks to all who had ideas

Bob

Bob,

If you still have them, hold on to them. You can use the threaded part to extend the threads of another seat of the same size. Also, there was an article years ago about using the hoods and threads from two different feel seats, to make an all thread reel seat, capable of moving the reel position higher or lower on the rod, for better balance.

Take care,

Chris

That looks similar to a piece of a reel seat I have for a production casting rod. The hood piece has a piece to it that slides into the groove shown in the picture. My guess is that it is created that way to keep the hood from spinning around. I would definitely hold on to it.
