Has anyone over coated threads on a fishing rod with the above coatings. Both would seem to have enough toughness to protect the threads and spar varnish has I've protection. Re: Using spar varnish/and or poly urethane to cover rod thds

Robert,
You can do it, but the epoxy coatings specifically do such a wonderful job, it makes me wonder why one would want to use anything else. Take care Re: Using spar varnish/and or poly urethane to cover rod thds

Polyurethane is easy, but takes several coats. Other than that it's fine. At least one company markets a furniture type poly as a rod thread wrap finish.

Varnish was the standard for bamboo rods, and used extensively before access to epoxies. Re: Using spar varnish/and or poly urethane to cover rod thds

I had a thread similar to this. The end result, purchase the right equipment for the job and you wont have a reason to question the purchase. I already made the mistake of attempting to use the wrong stuff for threads..that won't happen again. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
