Here is my dilemma. I have gotten into more and more inshore fishing in recent years, specifically targeting seatrout but also flounder and redfish. I fish a lot of jerk baits and topwater in the 5/8 oz to 2 oz range. The fishing is very energetic so I don't want too heavy a blank. The L904 looks like I could make it work; thing is, I would really love a metallic blue blank. I know the MB904 is rated to 1 oz, but would you be comfortable tossing heavier stuff if the cast was more of a throw than a punch?

You could certainly make it work. I would opt for whichever has the faster action, but that's just me.

There is a very simple answer to your issue.

Build up two rods. One on each of the blanks in question. Then, you will have the best rod for the particular bait you are fishing and the particular fish that you are catching.

I build and fish almost exclusively light tackle inshore rods here in Southeast Georgia. MHX is becoming very popular with the charter captains here, I have 2 in my personal arsenal, and I build several of them a year. My experience with the MHX blanks has lead me to the L903 model. This 7'-6" blank in Medium power works extremely well for popping corks and can easily cross over to the lure weights you are describing. Of course the color is gloss gray and looks good with black guides and wraps, but can be painted with a quality automotive type spray if so desired.(Lots of info here on painting also} Just my $.02.

When I'm trout, drum, flounder (and similar) fishing I use a P904 about 75% of the time. I'm typically fishing 10# line & 1/4-1/2oz jigs/lures. I have it set up for casting with a simple spiral. It's my go-to and I absolutely love it.

After flexing many blanks at the expo and doing some ccs measuring a few blanks over the weekend I think there are many inshore labeled blanks that are mag bass or very similar.

I handled the Bushido light salt, don't know how they are compared to the MHX, but they are different than mag bass. They felt like a popping blank but a little power in the butt and more bend in the middle compared to mag bass.I wish all these blanks have ccs numbers to compare.

Do you have to use a 7'6" rod for distance?You could lose up to .5 oz just by losing 3 inches of rod blank and make it easier to work the lures.

7'6" is useful when i'm fishing from the bank, which I do quite often. Admittedly it makes it more difficult to work the lures.

That's a good reason, working a lure easier don't help if it can't reach the fish.
