Will new era Channel lock reel seats accommodate older reel feet? Or, is it common for the need to grind a reel foot depending on reel brand? Examples of older reels: Pflueger 1595RC, Lamson 1.5 and 2, SA 6/7L, SA System2 8/9?
Is there a downside to having a channel lock reel seat on a 6wt rod used primarily for Saltwater use? Would the rear hood of a Channel lock reel seat self center due to channel in tube or would rear hood spin freely like if a round tube reel seat? Edited 1 time(s). My Lamson 3 works fine, nothing spins, everything is channel locked just like the discription says. Just done another way, but has the identical result of a graphite pipe style reel seat. Re: Channel reel seat

Is there any side to side slop of reel foot when snugged onto reel seat of rod? Like when tightening down a reel onto a hidden hooded or any tube style reel seat? I don't like that once a reel seems locked tight. Right and Left movement of the reel results in further setting and tightening of threaded tightening nut, until finally the reel cannot be moved on reel seat. A graphite tube style, with flat spot, locks reel down the first time. No fussing or moving reel to and fro to make sure.
I used a micrometer to measure reel feet of above mentioned reels. Lamson LP-2 was narrowest @ 0.532. Followed by SA L series 0.538. System2 0.540 extra 0.002 could have been finish thickness. Pflueger foot came in largest @ 0.552. None of these should need shaving to fit new generation channel reel seat? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
