Channel lock reel seat installation.

When installing a channel lock reel seat, using tape to build up rod blank for proper reel seat fit before gluing, does a "channel need to be cut in round tape build up for a Channel lock reel seat to slide over tape? Or, is tape build up same as if using a reel seat with round tube?

The same, the channel is on the outside of tube to keep the hoods aligned.

Yup, the same as a normal reel seat.

What I might suggest though....is using both foam arbors and tape. I like to use few foam arbors combined with a 1/8" wide tape arbors at each end of the seat. The tape ensures perfect center and the foam arbors reduce weight/extra epoxy. Just leave a 1/16" at each end filled with epoxy to seal and 1/16" gaps between the arbors packed with epoxy.

P.S. Have found the perfection brand ball gimbals to be a good color match. They are kinder on the tummy when you can't reach that fighting belt quickly!

Is there a downside to using channel lock reel seat on a 9' 6 weight fly rod? For example: Older fly reel feet being to big for a newer model channel lock reel seat? Older reels such as Lamson LP 1.5 or 2, SA system2 8/9, SA "L" series 6/7, or Pflueger 1595rc?

I have an older Ross 2 size that fits a small channel lock well and I like the seat. I would ask your supplier what is the width of the channel and hood opening before buying but no matter what I would test the reels you intend on using in the reel seat before you epoxy to blank.
