Need some advise!

Put the first coat of epoxy on my son's rod this weekend which included a small portion of the blank for the label. After letting the epoxy cure for a day I applied the "peel and stick" label to a pretty decent looking first coat. Initially the label looked great. Now after a day it looks like crap with lots of patches of where it was no longer sticking. I can't press them out or poke tiny hole to get the air out. So instead of proceeding to put the 2nd coat on, I yanked the label off. Now I have a patch of tacky adhesive on a coat of epoxy. At least now a have a learning curve dilemma instead of a crappy looking label. Any thoughts on how to get the adhesive off?

Thanks for all the help in advance.

Neither types of alcohol will dissolve the decal adhesive.

Phil, I started up with some Goo Gone last night. I think it might do the trick w/o taking the epoxy with it. Thanks. I also have some Goof Off but I'm going to hold off on it. I think it has xylene which might play heck on the epoxy.

Gents, I thank you for your direction and assistance.

Lighter fluid that Dennis suggests will work fine - as will any other mineral spirits or thinner. But, because these materials leave their own residue behind, Clean that residue off with a cleaner, like simple green, or windex. If you don't clean, the mineral spirits residue left behind will cause final finish adhesion.

Be safe
