Is there any information about using light-curing epoxy on rod windings? It seems like the viscosity of LCE could be tailored to the ambient temperature, and an intermittent UV light source would allow the epoxy to flow out to level and still be fully cured in five minutes. Dentists use the stuff to glue teeth together. It should be rugged enough to secure a guide on a rod. Re: light-cure epoxy

It has been discussed here many times. The folks at Cork4Us have a complete system, which they demo at the Expo every year and will be doing again this weekend. There are other variations as well. Ken Preston experimented with quite a few different ones just a while back. You might do a search under his name for his results.

Was the light curing finish from the old sponsor Diamondite an epoxy, thought it was something different? Re: light-cure epoxy

None of these are epoxies.

In all the literature I've read and all the different products I've tried this is the one that I feel is most appropriate for use on fishing rods (threads). Note this is a one-part liquid. The 'problem' that I have run into in trying to bring this forward for use is in finding a small, safe curing light. Admittedly I have not looked to see what has come on the market in the past year or so in the way of LED UV cure lights in the specified curing range and what it would take (or if it is needed) in the way of a reflector and stands to support it Ideally I was hoping to fabricate a curing lamp system that could be attached to the bed of an existing lathe (PacBay, American Tackle, ALPS) bed so it would not have to be hand rotated. I haven't stopped looking, experimenting, testing and COSTING - but with a physical move from Maryland to North Carolina and all that comes with setting up a new house and reconstituting the rod shop I let this slide.
Here's the product I think is as close as it could be: [www.masterbond.com] Re: light-cure epoxy

Now that I'm regaining some time I'll start back looking into how this could be either brought to market - along with cost. What I can tell you off the top is that this would be more expensive than any of the two part epoxies on the market today and thus would be more suited to a shop that does lots of repairs. This type system would save lots of physical space used by driers/drying boxes but again would be more appropriate for a medium / large scale production or repair shop. Re: light-cure epoxy

Awesome! I'm on Harkers Island about an hour east of you. I currently commute here once a week from Charleston until we can get a house there sold & get back here on a more permanent situation. I'm not currently building, but I'm sure you can understand (everything is packed up). That should change in a few months...God willing. My family has a restaurant here, but I don't want to break any advertising rules. And we fish a good bit.
So, yeah...you're welcome any time! Jay Re: light-cure epoxy

Jay -
You (and anyone else) is always welcome to stop by, have a chat, check out rodbuilding set up etc. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
