One of the guide inserts in my original Helium LTA is rattling around a bit. Is there anything I can do about it? At some point, I'm going to have it rewrapped with smaller guides, but I was putting that off until I got a little better at wrapping them myself. I really like the blank and how it fishes so I don't want to sideline the rod if at all possible. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!! Re: Loose insert in original Kistler Helium LTA

Replace the guide, good practice for later. Re: Loose insert in original Kistler Helium LTA

If I'm going to rewrap it, I really want to do all of them with small Alconites but I'm definitely not experienced enough to take that on just yet... I have a few minor projects in mind that will help me along but they're not ready to be started yet. Should I refrain from using the rod until I can replace the guide? What harm would it do to use the rod? You'll do no damage to the rod by using it. I've finished a day with an insert out of the guide, the closer to the tip the guide is the less load and concern the missing insert is. If it's the first 3 guides from the tip you can load the rod like your fighting the fish and notice how that part of the rod straightens and points toward the load, having very little line tension on those guides.
Batson, Pacific Bay, and AmTack all have guides with a blue ring. Re: Loose insert in original Kistler Helium LTA

Put a drop of superglue around the ring a frame. It will hold it in place. Can also use a drop of epoxy. Since epoxy is thicker once you apply it to the guide heat it with a hair dryer this will get the epoxy to flow into the space between ring and frame. Wipe the excess away with a DNA dampened rag or paper towel.
