E-Glass rear grip

Hi All,

In my previous post I mentioned I was building a white rear grip for spinning rod. I am using a E-Glass Sleeve over foam core. I am going to tint the epoxy white to get a white grip. Question

If you tint the expoxy white will it prevent it from yellowing?
Has anyone done this? Experience?
If you use Perma Gloss as a final coat does this prevent the epoxy under from yellowing?

I am very concerned the grips will yellow very quickly.

Thank You,

Chris Tulk

The epoxy is going to amber/yellow, regardless of anything you do.

Thanks for confirming Tom.

So even if final coat is PG?

Chris

UV passes through PG without interaction, so it does not yellow. Whatever is under the PG, such as thread or epoxy, is thus exposed to UV and will fade or yellow.

Sounds like I will have to put up with yellowing over time then. Hopefully tinting the epoxy white will help with this a bit.

Thank You,

I think tinting the PermaGloss white would cure the yellowing.

Very difficult to make PG opaque.

Tint, yes. Color, no. It's a very subtle look.
