I am curious about picking up a book or two on thread art techniques. I'm New to this so ild like to learn the basics before all the real fancy stuff. So here is my question. What books do you recommend .

Billy Vivona has a book with patterns and instructions. Google billy vivona book, mudhole sells it.

Danny, There a nother guy, Jim Upton has a book on thread art. you can also go on utube and look up some videos.

There are several out there from Tom Kirkman's book that gives a basic knowledge of wraps and no information on weaving, while Dale Clemens wrote several books Like "Custom Thread Art" which covers mostly wrapping but does have a small section on weaving, his "Advanced Custom Rod Building" book covers everything from the blanks of the time too building your own tools and anything else rod building of the time.
Above I se two names listed Billy's book is wrapping while Jim's is Weaving and there are others like Flex Coat that did some short books on wrapping, and many more did DVD's or (back in the day)VHS's like Artie Hebert who had a whole series from building too wrapping and even some weaving, Doc Ski has both, Ken Preston has a DVD which I have not seen yet (Sorry Ken) , Steve Petri and Steve Paterson both have DVD's, and so on and so on...

You can check with a lot of the major sponsors on the left and they can give probably give you a list of books and or video's.

Once you get the basic idea (from any of the sources already listed) get Steve Paterson's DVD to learn how to keep intricate patterns aligned and tight. Oh, my DVD really does not go into 'thread art' much at all so you can bypass that for fancy thread wraps.
