Hi All,

Where can I buy materials to build my own carbon grips? is it still Riely Rods? I have been off the site for about a year now so I am not up to speed with all the sponsors.

Thanks for the help!

Chris

Solar Composites is an option if you are unable to get ahold of Mike at Riley.

I think they sell the foam, as well as United Composites who also sells it.

Pacific Bay sells pre-shaped foam cores, and perhaps a few other sponsors may have those or similar now.

Hi Don,

I am only a hobby builder so l just got distracted with my kids and life! I have 4 rods I am about to start so I am back again for now. I have to build 2 casting and 2 spinning rods. 3 of them are for friends and 1 for me!

I am sure I will have questions as its been a while since my last build.

BTW I f you recall you helped me with my first ever build about 4 years ago now. The rod is still going strong. Except the epoxy has yellowed on the white blank. I my rewrap it this year.

Thank You,

Chris Tulk

Chris,

Welcome back. I know about life getting in the way of rod building. Fortunately, (since my kids are all grown and raising their own), I now have all the time I need to build rods....just not the funds!

Don

Hi Jay

I had been seeing a lot of posts similar to yours so that why I was asking about other options. I did want to buy a kit to make the cores at home though.

Does anyone know if Reily Rods is in business?

Thank You,

Chris Tulk

Chris,

I imagine Mike Riley's guiding business has generated a better return on his time investment than his carbon fiber grip business. I hate to see our industry lose his contribution, as he did a beautiful job on his carbon fiber grips. I had him build me one for an Rainshadow Eternity 2 a year or so ago and it fit the reel seat perfectly, 'was absolutely beautiful and best of all my customer loved it.
