I just wanted to say hello and thank you to all of you for the expert advice on this site. I have read for hours prior to attempting my first rod. Pretty much every question has been covered here. With all of your guidance, we will have our first bass rod completed in the next few days. We started with a kit, but gained enough confidence to build exactly what we want from here on out. This site is indispensable for rod building. Re: New Rod Builder

Scott,
It is commendable of you to give credit where credit is due. Many on this site in general, the veterans in particular, continually and unselfishly offer assistance to everyone including us newbies, yet are not given the recognition and thanks they deserve often enough. Mark Talmo FISHING IS NOT AN ESCAPE FROM LIFE BUT RATHER A DEEPER IMMERSION INTO IT!!! BUILDING YOUR OWN SIMPLY ENHANCES THE EXPERIENCE. Re: New Rod Builder

Scott, Between 1974 and 1977 all I did was read about building a better rod for Bass fishing. I read Fishing Facts, InFisherman, Bass Master just about anything that had to do with fishing, but I never thought I could build my own rods until one day in 1977.I went to a local bait shop and bought a spool of thread and some rod varnish . I'll never forget that day because while putting guides on an old fly rod tip to become a UL spinning rod, I had the radio on a NY station(WNEW-FM) when it was announced that ELVIS PRESLEY had passed away.
I thought I knew enough to get by with building and doing repairs until 2004 when I found this site. It has helped with a lot of time saving and different ways to do things along with all kinds of materials and products to use. There is a lot of information to be gained here by ever giving like minded people. I know some guys don't like unions but we have a strong one here. Dennis J. Thank you for the welcome. Is there a newbie area? I don't want to clog up the board with any stupid questions. Re: New Rod Builder

Scott, there are no stupid questions. Even a question that turns out having a simple answer is a good question. You'll be amazed at how some of your questions are answered differently by different builders.
I have no doubts that even the veteran builders on this site learn a thing or two from time to time. And those new to building, like you ..... or those still fairly new to building, like myself can learn a ton from the builders on this site. They're a great bunch of people that are more than willing to share their knowledge. I love this place !!! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
