A client has given me a 20 year old Thomas & Thomas blank to build on. It has a spigot to join the 2 pieces. When put together, there is about a 1/4" gap. Are you supposed to leave it and let it wear in, sand it down a bit to get the 2 pieces to butt together, or trim back the spigot to get them to butt together. Never did one of there before. Need all the help I can get. Re: Thomas&Thomas

Spigot ferrules are built that way on purpose to allow for wear over time. They are still being used on some modern rods.

You will need to make ferrule reinforcement wraps on both sides, male and female, of each spigot ferrule. Re: Thomas&Thomas

Do not reduce the diameter of the "plug" end of the ferrule. Re: Thomas&Thomas
