I want to hear your opinions regarding single vs. double-foot guides on bumper spiral wrapped rods. The last rod I made featured two double-feet guides as the stripper and the bumper, with all the bottom guides being micros. It seemed to work very well for me but I am now considering changing to a single double-foot stripper layout because I want to use titanium framed guides and the single foot titanium guides would better fit my budget.

What are your thoughts? Do you have a preference between single and double-foot guides in terms of functionality? What do you think looks best, aesthetically speaking?

Most any guide will function as intended unless and until it gets bent, broken, etc. For that reason I tend to stay with double foot guides on the lower half of the rod. They carry great loads and when bumped or banged against something take more force due the blank being less flexible in that area. How much more would a double foot versus a single foot in the same size and style cost? A couple bucks?

This was answered a few post back, I myself have gotten away with single foot guides on some rods I have with no problems for some years now, however every rod I built for others have come back with bent guides, almost always the first three or four guides from the reel, mainly the first 3. I now build all my rods that way, unless specifically asked to go single foot.
