Does anyone know what stainless steel is used in PacBay fly guides. The catalogue just says "stainless steel". My application is for saltwater and I typically use SS316 guides. The material is typically stated in all other guides, but not on PacBay. Are they SS304 or SS316? Re: PacBay fly guide material

All Stainless Steel guides will corrode in saltwater. If the rod is for fresh water I would not worry about it. The difference in 304 and 316 in ambient environments will not be noticed. 316 has a slightly higher nickle content with the addition of molybdenum that is not in 304. If you where to heat the guides up to 180F to 200F the 316 would be less susceptible to stress corrosion chloride cracking. This is not going to happen fishing. If the rod is for saltwater I would use Titanium (Ti) or a Titanium Chrome Nickle (TiCr Ni) guide frame material. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
