U K Hooks sliding reel seat

Does anyone use the moveable reel seat from U K Hooks?-How good is it and does it lock as well as claimed? I don't want to spend the money for just one item along with US price difference and vat and shipping charges just to be disappointed.
Thanks JP

Hi Joe,

The current conversion rate is 1.22 USD to 1 GBP. Not all that long ago it was 1.7 to 1.
In regards to VAT, some UK companies (not sure if all) do not charge it on exports.

I have no familiarity with the UK Hooks movable reel seat.

The most approved is the style with collar nuts at each end of the pipe. However, both collar nuts need to be loosened in order to move the reel seat and some people complain [about] the bulkiness of the collars when casting.

The alternatives are the use of two plate reel seats or a handle extension. Both have issues.

Your correct Don, The reel seat with the 2 tightening nuts is terrible. It's 30 mm OD. and feels bulky. I think Penn makes it.

I just talked myself out of the reel seat. The rod I need it for is 24mm OD including shrink wrap. U K Hooks states I need a 26 mm ID reel seat. I looked up a Fuji 26 mm DPS and the OD is 32.8 mm. That's 2 mm's more than I mentioned in my last post. That's not gonna' work. You need a really big hand size for that to feel comfortable. Now if a seat had the OD of a # 24 and the ID of 26mm or even 25 mm that would be perfect but that doesn't exist to my knowledge. So my next choice is a plate seat. Just about everyone claims it's no good? I'm only going to cast with it on a Century C3LD. I just put one on over 2 wraps of black tape and it feels real good. I can't believe that Fuji is going to keep making something that's going to fall apart on me. I guess I'll find out. That's enough of giving you guys a tin ear.

Hi Joe,

You do have the option of using coasters with the CTM models. They are not that user friendly when it comes to relocating the reel. It might be easiest to use two sets of coasters.

Although I have not heard any negative reports on using 2 plate style reel seats, I have a small concern about the shockleader knot catching on the upper reel seat. Perhaps it may be a good idea to place upper reel seat as close as possible to the lower reel seat while keeping it usable for your purposes. This would help to keep the reel seat out of the lines flow path.

Some of the earlier manufactured Akios reels require a little extra care when it comes to maintenance. Your reel "may" not have an anti reverse cog/dog. The cog is necessary to back up a failed Infinite Anti Reverse (IAR) bearing. If yours does not have the dog, your IAR will require more attention.

If your reel requires service, I can recommend Hookless in Florida. He has the experience and parts to service your reel.

Don the reel is ok. It does have the anti reverse. I'm going to stick with the Fuji plate seat. I'm also about 1/64+ away from the Fuji pipe dps from sliding over the butt. I don't think it's going to work however. the tube is appears too thin.

Joe,
Bill Boettcher figured out how to do that with a standard dps pipe style reel seat. Easy to do, send him an email.
