Hello everyone

We recently had a camera crew in our factory in New Zealand - filming how we make the CTS rod blanks and MAVEN finished rods.

Take a look: [www.youtube.com]

Hi Gayleen,
Does it say in the video you bake the rods after the carbon is applied to the mandrel? Nice video.

Hi Bruce,

Yes, that's correct.

The carbon and glass are 'prepreg' materials. Called prepreg because the epoxy resin is pre-impregnated into the fiber, as opposed to dry fiber that has a wet layer of resin applied.

The prepreg is in what we call 'stage B cure'. The epoxy is neither wet or fully cured (hard) - it's in a tacky, maleable form.

Once we've tightly wrapped the carbon around the mandrel, we go through some debulking (compression) steps and then wrap under pressure before sending to the oven. We use an extended slow cook cycle to fully cure the resin.

Remember that CTS will be at the Expo in about 7 weeks. Good time to ask them, in person, about their products.
