Metalic Thread + CP?

I hope all had an enjoyable Christmas.
I rarely use metallic thread in favor of a less flashy wrapped rod but am in need of replacing two guides on a customer’s rod and would like to match the existing wraps. Am I assuming correctly that metallic thread, ProWrap in my case, acts similar to Color Fast (NCP) and does not require CP? I hope so as I do not care for the restrictive properties of CP.

You should be fine without CP on any metallic advertised for rod building. I cannot comment on metallic thread used for embroidery purposes.

The metallic rod winding threads I've used look the same with or without CP. Gudbrod, Pro Wrap, + a couple other brands.

My experience with ProWrap is not that flash .I don't use traditional rod building threads all that much .The first & only time I used a traditional metalic thread it was a fight to 1 get it to lay down & stop springing off the spool in the end I gave up & went back to my usual embroidery threads .I used CP only because of habit .There has to be a method to stop the problems I had with it & one day I'll take the time to work out the system because there some nice colours in ProWrap .

Perma gloss over metallic thread will make the color pop.

Barry, have you tried out the new premium metallic thread that prowrap released. I've used it a little bit and I haven't had any issues with it springing off the spool.

No I haven't Michael I predominately use embroidery thread .It was just that the customer wanted some red metallic & the box of prowrap has this nice red in it & I was going to use it .since Marks post I've given it some thought & I'm starting to think it could be the magnetic tensioner system that I use .Maybe I didn't have the correct pressure from the magnets to stop it springing .Because the only way I can see it happening is if the thread spool can rotate under it's own volition .Also the spools are mounted horizontal .At the moment I'm just guessing & when I have time I'll set up a couple of prowrap metallic spools 1 vertical & the other horizontal
