-- My buddy ordered a 400.00 st. Croix legend rod. I wanted to know if anyone knew what this handle was made of? I figured i could duplicate it if I knew what the material was.
It looks like plastic. Re: St. Croix xtreme-skin handles

Probably could be duplicated using foam cores covered with a soft touch shrink tube like the SST shrink tube sold by PAC Bay..

Xtreme-Skin handle repels water, dirt and fish
slime and cleans up easily. Manufactured by St. Croix to provide outstanding angler comfort, casting efficiency and sensitivity --------------------------- St. Croix uses the words - Xtreme-skin. Based on these words; one might believe that it is a foam based - carbon over - epoxy grip. Take care Re: St. Croix xtreme-skin handles

It's not carbon, closer to a shrink tube but more likely a painted on thin vinyl type coating. Think something like "plasti-dip."

Looks very similar to Pac Bays ready form grips which are molded to the exact shape of the grip to eliminate surface voids from sanding a handle to the shape from a foam blank. Saw these at the last ICRBE, looks like a good product which I hope to try out soon.

It looks to me like the "final skin" is applied AFTER the grips are installed. Not sure if painted, dipped, or shrink tube. Re: St. Croix xtreme-skin handles

Like the grip, hate the butt cap, it looks like aluminum and it slides off everything, never picked up a rod off the deck, etc. more times in my life. Re: St. Croix xtreme-skin handles

If you have a slipping issue, just put a rubber chair leg tip on the end of the rod and your slipping days will be over.
