Hi Joe,

While most (not all) tournament long distance casters use a low reel position for casting, it is my understanding that after the cast, the reel will either be moved to the high position or an extension will be plugged into the bottom of the handle.The C3 LD probably has a parallel handle and will allow for the use of a sliding reel seat. Use of a full length, continuous section of heat shrink would probably be best to allow the use of a sliding reel seat. Due to material specifications and possible warranty issues, it would probably be best to buy the Japanese heat shrink and sliding reel seat for a C3 LD from Century.

How much heat shrink? Since the C3 LD is rated for up to 7 ounces, you should allow for a wide grip on the handle. For a lot of people, This is usually around 34 inches from the center of the reel to the butt end. My preferred length is 36 inches. If you allow 6 inches of heat shrink to extend above the reel, the total length of continuous heat shrink would be about 45 inches. You may want to add 5 inches of heat shrink above and below the ferrule to aid in separating the tip and handle.
