Thread color issues

Hi there! I'm building my first rod for my boyfriend for Xmas. I did a gold underwrap throughout and on the first guide did burgundy with metallic accents with gold wheating. Then the rest of the guides just did burgundy with metallic accents. Now I've gotten to the bottom and I started the diamonds which look great from afar and up close but I feel like it doesn't match. At all. I need some suggestions. I don't want to add too much more burgundy to the diamonds because I think they're blown up pretty nice and I don't want to take away from them. I feel like I need to add light blue into the first guide wrap. Not sure if taking apart the first guide wrap is necessary. Everyone else says it matches but it looks off to me.

Halp!

This is a custom rod.
You are the builder of the custom rod.
If you don't like something about the rod that you are building - change it.
Your opinion is the only one that matters.

Be safe

yes. im aware i can change something. however, as a novice im not sure what changes can be made to bring the two together without completely taking off all my guide wraps and starting from scratch.

im sure that someone else has encountered the same mismatching feeling problem. so like on any other message board, i came looking for advice.

my next step is to try some @#$%& on some pencils to see if it feels like it matches more. but even though it is a custom rod i should feel comfortable looking to more experienced builders for advice and thought. though it doesnt mean i need to blindly follow.

Niki,
The photo's can not be viewed. I expect that it might be because of a personal sign on that you use for your pictures.

To be sure to allow all viewers to view your pictures, please upload them to the Photo section of this forum under a specific catagory.

First rod build? It's mighty fine for a first go at rod building.

Frankly, I'd leave well enough (actually it's much better than well enough) alone.

I added some metallic gold into the diamonds and I'm going back around either side with two threads a side and I think that will bring it all together.

And as far as mighty fine, we will see what happens when I get to the epoxy lol.

What I see looks good - Not flashy - Now If you used regular nylon you can get two different looks - No CP and the thread will get slightly transparent and ( maybe ) show the gold thought -- With several coats of CP it will hold the color you have ???
You can try a piece of scrap do a short wrap - TWO - coat with and without CP See how you like it
Blue also will fade in the sun VERY FAST ??
The wraps are nice !

I have some thread that has been alreadycolor preserved and some that hasn't. So I will have to color preserve. Probably. However I also had that plan to try on my scrap practice pencils. :)

I think your boyfriend will be amazed and proud of this rod. I am sure it will be a special gift for him. Yes use color preserver to prevent the colors from darkening and blending together.

so heres it right before i did the color preserver, i am much happier with it than i was before. i did the cp 4 times to really lock it in place. and my friend who is guiding me through it says the next step is going to be cutting and then wrapping up to the cut/putting on the hook saver, and then epoxy. i am close but i am in all honesty TERRIFIED.
