Sorry to bother everyone, but I have a question.
If Gudebrod size D thread is 0.012 (TEX 80), is
there a much difference in Polyester (TEX 90)

Glen

The systems for measuring threads have always confused me. Nonetheless, as I understand it, the greater the tex value the heavier the thread for a fixed length. However, thread diameter does not necessarily march in unison with the tex value, which is a weight measure and not a size or strength measure.

Bottom line is do test wraps, and if one is the more pleasing then use it and ignore the tex.

Not surprising, yet still disappointing, the Tex value is consistently inconsistent as with so many other aspects in the real world.

Glenn,

Gudebrod size D at .012 " is nylon NCP thread - commonly referred to as NCP.
Gudebrod size D at .0104 " is nylon not treated - commonly referred to as Nylon.

While Gudebrod D NCP is thicker than D Nylon, D Nylon is stronger than D NCP.

Sizes of A, B, C, D, E, F are government specifications. These standards are not strictly adhered to for rod wrapping.
Gudebrod D Nylon has a strength of 6 to 8 pounds.
Gudebrod A Nylon has a strength of about 3 pounds. (Memory is fading on these last two ratings)

A few things to consider:
Is the thread strong enough?
Does it have fuzz?
Is it sewing thread and require CP?
How many ply does it have?
How many turns per inch (TPI)?

The number of ply and TPI will determine how much show through may occur.

Here are many charts that speak to the size of various types of thread and their numbers or letters:

Thanks for all the info, but I have looked up all the sizes and diameter of threads.
I was just trying to find a thread that close to gudebrod D thread. I think I have found
something that will work. I found some Rayon 30wt. thread that is real close to it..
Going to try some and try it out, Will keep you posted on the outcome

Glenn,

Makoi Thread Nylon size D matches Gudebrod Nylon size D.
Makoi Thread Perma Color size D matches Gudebrod NCP size D.

When we started selling thread, it was our desire to follow the Standards set By Gudebrod.

Hey Don,
Thanks, I liked what I seen.
Does your thread lay down like gudebrod
And is that all the colors you have or will you have more

Hi Glen,

Does your thread lay down like gudebrod?

Kind of. The thread diameters will be the same or very close. Both Gudebrod and Makoi have a nylon base.
Makoi has more turns per inch. If the Makoi thread is wrapped around a tight turn, the color underneath will not show through as much as Gudebrod.

And is that all the colors you have or will you have more?
There are a couple of colors not shown on our website. Dark Russet and Valentine Red are two I can think of.

We also have top quality braid available.

Thank you,
Don

Ok, My wife was cleaning out her thread box ,found some nice colors but they are Polyester. Someone told me that polyester was not to be used on Rod wraps because the thread will not hold up , and if used for dress up . It will fade, so I just never looked to use it on rods now I find my self looking at 10 cool colors free to use, are they ok for Rod wraps?
