I've been looking through past posts but couldn't find nothing on the topic of stripper placement from reel seat. Is that something you figure out when you do a static test or is there a 'everybody puts the guide here' way? And if anybody knows of a sweet how to video on spiral wrapping that would be sweet!

And I also was wondering about which alcohol to use. I keep reading about different ones not recommended and then someone else will recommend them! Was just curious what you guys thought?

Isopropyl is fine for most cleaning chores. Denatured can be a little better when you're trying to clean epoxy from an area you've just adhered, although once the epoxy is set few solvents will do much to it.

For alcohol I prefer Guiness or Glenlivet Nadurra, the rods get denatured alcohol any brand that's handy.

Guiness is the best. If you use too much it can have a negative impact on your build.

Trace - Not sure what type of rod you are going to build. For most bass and inshore rods the stripper is usually placed some where between 18 - 22" from the front of the reel, with 19 -20" being very common for most rods. This varies with the length and action of the rod, as well as the type of reel (low profile vs round body). As far as spiral wraps are concerned, there are several varieties, I think the two most common are the revolver, and the simple spiral. Both work and do not require any special guide spacing layouts versus a conventional layout. The simple spiral adds an additional small guide (bumper) at 90 degrees half way between the stripper on top of the rod (0 degrees) and the next guide on the bottom of the rod (180 degrees). You can do a search of this site on spiral wraps and get some good information, include all dates in your search. It may take some time to go through all the posts, but is a good learning experience. Most importantly test the various types spiral layouts before wrapping to see which one you prefer.
Concerning alcohol, both isopropyl and denatured alcohol work very well for clean ups. Isopropyl is cheaper than denatured alcohol. Brands are not important. If you get isopropyl get it at 90% purity or better. In my alcohol burner I prefer denatured alcohol.

For the majority of the rods that I build which are 6- 7 1/2 feet in length, I set the stripper guide at 19 inches from the center of the reel seat and space the rest of the guides from there.

In a nutshell - it works just fine for these rods.
