Looking to build my first surf rod and I am in need of some guidance as to which blank to purchase. I have it narrowed down to a St. Croix 4SRS106MHMF2 1-6 oz 10'6 and and a Lamiglas GSB120-1L 2-4 oz 10'. I am also open to other suggestions, not opposed to spending a little money to get a good blank. I am leaning more towards the St. Croix, but It is only available in a two piece. Have any of you had experience with the 70/30 split of the St. Croix? Does it perform as well as a one piece. Any information is appreciated. Thank You.

The shipping on a one piece rod would be a concern, think you'll see a big difference in a one piece blank. Also I see the power rating aren't the same, a good rule of thumb is to do some math and look at the mid point between the high a low rating, this is ususaal pretty close to the blanks "sweet spot". More info on what your using with the rod and the fish involved would get more info.

It will be used mostly in the surf for striped bass and blue fish. Majority of the time will be using artificial lures, but would like to be able to use bait with it on the rare occasion I want to. Will be putting a vs200 on it and using k style Fuji concept guides. Thank you for the input.

Forgot the info on the St. Croix, the 70/30 split concept has been around a very long time and used by everyone one time, or another, don't worry about a problem there. The StripersOnline site will have a bunch of info about virtually every blank, or rod in it's archives you can access with search, or just sign up and ask away.

They're both good blanks. I've built on both for surf casting for stripers and blues. The 2pcs Croix is great if you don't have roof racks. What lure weight do you think you will use most? Spencer made good points. Good luck

LAMI "OLD SCHOOL BLANK"

Check out Rodgeeks surf blanks. They have a blank that comes with 2 tips. 1 med fast and 1 heavy that fits the same butt.
