a specialized blank

A possible customer is a tournament carp fisherman. He fishes for carp with a conventional reel, a forked stick, and dough balls. He wants a ten foot blank capable of casting a 1/2 - 3/4 ounce bait-and- weight at least 100 feet , but gently so as not to throw the bait off the hook, and still have enough backbone to stop a 30# carp from running for cover/snags. My experience with carp has been shooting them with a longbow so I don't know whether a slow, medium, or fast blank would be best, or what kind of guides to use and how many. Tournament fishing for carp is a big thing in Europe, and European anglers have apparently been making trips to the U.S. for 20 years just to take advantage of the spectacular carp fishing here. It is bound to gain popularity in the U.S.

I searched Mud Hole and the net for "carp rod blanks" without hits. A search for "carp fishing rods" produced scores of rods between $14.95 and $48.95 and a few from $300 on up. No mention whether they should be ultra-fast like a bass rod, or slow like a walleye rod, have single-foot or double-foot, little-bitty or great big, silicon carbide or aluminum oxide guides. Apparently there is big money in carp tournaments and endorsements everywhere but in the U.S.A., but with pollution and all that may soon change.

Lots of MH salmon and steelhead blanks out there in your length they are all designed to throw your weight using tender baits that can be easily thrown off.

These folks may be ably to answer your questions. They are in Oklahoma.

In regards to not throwing off the bait, the cast should be made using a big rotation, consistent speed build up throughout the cast, and no pull/punch at the end before release.

Most of these Salmon / Steel head rods would work well for you.
You want a light tip for the light bite of the carb - but enough back bone to bring the fish - boat side.

Be safe

Marketing has evolved special-purpose blanks: crank-bait rods, jerk-bait rods, jig-and-pig rods, worming rods, pitching rods, walleye rods, largemouth bass rods, catfish rods, perch rods, finesse rods - the list goes on. I am convinced a dedicated carp fisherman, especially one involved in carp tournament/prize fishing, would be more pleased with a rod built on a blank devoted to a specific style of angling for a designated species (carp) rather than a converted bass or salmon blank.

If you want a blank designed specifically for carp fishing, then you will need to buy it from the U.K. or Europe. There are a number of different specialized Carp blanks sold over there. They take their carp fishing seriously! At one time I was looking for some Match blanks and carp blanks, but could not find them in the US. The only carp blanks I have seen sold in the US were the MHX carp series, but it seems that they have been discontinued.

Finding 10' light carp blank is difficult.
