Robert, I used to work part time at a scrapyard and would take the turntable motors out of microwaves...Most are in that 3-7rpm range, but I have pulled a couple that were 36rpm. Most are also 120vAC, but there were a couple that were stepped down to a smaller voltage (those got REALLY HOT when you hook them up to 120v laughing at myself) I don't know if I would use it for a drum style dryer, but a single rod it turns without any problems. I just use a PVC end cap and attach with a bolt and loctite into the nylon shaft.

McMaster Carr = quality products, fair prices, great customer service, awesome shipping. Look for gear reduction motors, both 12VDC or 110VAC.

Robert,
Rather than using 120 volt AC motors, give low voltage DC motors a try.

For example, 12 or 24 volt dc motors are readily available at a reasonable price and the power supply is inexpensive as well.

For example:

Power supply:

The direction of DC motors is voltage dependent. Therefore you hook the + 12 volt wire to one terminal of the motor and the -12 volt wire to the other terminal of the motor and the motor will rotate one way.
But, if you flip the wire connections from the supply to the motor; the motor will run in the opposite direction.

Be safe
