catfish rod

My brother in law wants me to build him a catfish rod for the NC area. My fish thought was going with e-glass for the strength and durability. I have a few of the rainshadow ip844 and the ISB844 lying around that I use for inshore fishing here in FL. My first thought was maybe the ISB844, but after some research it seems most do go with the e-glass or a composite. He says he typically uses 15lbs line and fishes from the shore and a boat. Any suggestions would be great.

My cousin wanted a catfish rod also. I did a search and found this web site. [www.catfishedge.com] it gives a lot of useful information on catfish rods.

Justin: Thanks for the suggestion. the [www.catfishedge.com] site contains a bunch of excellent, clearly stated information. A lot of it carries over to rods for anglers after any species of fish over 20 pounds, not just catfish.

Depends on what species targeted ,techniques, fishing conditions and how your brother-in-law takes care of it.

A carbon popping rod around 7'6" would be ideal for targeting channels and bullheads using punch/stinkbait carolina rigged with up to 1oz sinker.

I am building a Rod Geeks X Composite 733 neon green for multipurpose NC inshore and catfish.

If I was targeting big blues I would check out the Rod Geeks SG 7'11" which I believe are based on the highly regarded St Croix Classic Cat.I was bending some of the blanks at the ICRBE and they are very nice. Also the custom colors in white and neon help seeing the rod in low light conditions.
