insult or not

i did a split diamond wrap on 1 of my rods and the guy asked me how mush did the sticker cost.Do i take that as a insult or how much of a brain he doesn't have.I would like to think i did that good of a job to make it look that good.Frist one the public got to see. Re: insult or not

As it happens, the better your thread work, the more it tends to look like a sticker, tape, decal, etc. Only when there are gaps, nubs, poor finish, etc., does the fact that it is actually thread become apparent.

I once had a person ask me how I would replace a broken guide on his rod. I told him I would cut it off and wrap on a new one. He said wrap on a new one? He did not know that guides were wrapped on a rod with tread. Some people have no idea how a rod it put together.

When your dealing with guys who use fishing rods for what they were intended, your going get responses like that and "why do I need that on a fishing rod".

These are the dudes that would refer to a vintage Leonard bamboo rod as a "fishing pole," and call the agate stripper guide an "eye."
