Berkley Shadow rod

A customer dropped of a older Berkley SGlass Shadow salmon rod 2 PC. He thought it had lost the male ferrule. I wasn't home so he left it with my wife. Upon inspection it looks like they used a combination spigot and butt over tip ferrule. Is this correct? I had not seen this before.

The butt over tip ferrule was around in the 60's and 70's, sometimes it was also called a "precision ground ferrule". I seen it used into the 90's on some high modulus graphite/boron composite rods from Japan.
