snapped spiral wrap rod

just snapped my spiral wrap rod. I was just flipping a 5oz sinker and BAM! its a 7ft mhf with line wt at 15-30. no brand name from mudhole. bottom to top, the set up is, 19 1/2 to top of fore grip. 1st guide 321/2, 2nd 371/2, 3rd 42 ( snapped 1 in above) 4th 51, 5th 66 1/2, 6th 67, 7th 73 1/2, 7th 79, tip 85. was the spiral to close? need help before I start the next one. thanks.

Not likely that the guide wrap style or placement had any thing to do with the broken rod.

Much more likely that the rod blank had been damaged in some way between its manufacture and its final demise.

Or, if it had not been used much, there was an outside chance that there was a manufacturing defect in the rod blank.

Before building your rods, do you give the blank a very good stress test which means that you flex the blank to at least 90 degrees to fully test the blank's integrity.

Better to test the blank and break it; if there is a defect before you spend any time building up the rod.
