COLOR PRESERVER QUESTION !

I am trying to use up some of my old stock and wondering how long does color preserver last. I have 2 or 3 different brands all tightly sealed and kept in a dark place. No lumps or clumps in them.
Any input is appreciated. Thank you, Tom Re: COLOR PRESERVER QUESTION !

If it doesn't seem thicker than normal, it's okay to use.

Tom,
Products like color preserver are very inexpensive. When the products get to their end of life as printed on the container, pitch the container and go with a new container of material. Or you could just go with the nice translucent look of NOT using any color preserver or NCP thread. Then you don't need to worry about the age of the color preserver, since you will not be using any on the rod. Good luck Re: COLOR PRESERVER QUESTION !

While not related to shelf life, I have another question regarding CP. I have heard CP restricts the epoxy finish from penetrating the thread fibers as well as if no CP were used. Has anyone experienced related issues?
Thanks, Mark Talmo Re: COLOR PRESERVER QUESTION !

Mark,
I believe that it does. Run some tests for your self. Just take an old piece of blank and do a few fairly wide spaced wraps. Then, coat 1/2 of the blanks with cp. Leave the other 1/2 of the wraps uncoated. Then, apply a generous coat of thread finish in the way that you normally apply finish. Let the finish cure for a week. Then, peel off the thread and see if you have any difference in the peel strength. Good luck Re: COLOR PRESERVER QUESTION !

It will if you let it set up !! When I put CP on I put a wet coat on while turning - But - will put another coat on 10 - 15 min Or less Trying to keep it wet before it sets or drys - or cures - If let to long it will seal Like it should And another coat will not penetrate So the IDEA is to put coats on WHEN WET so it is not one coat over another HARD coat Wast of time Bill - willierods.com Re: COLOR PRESERVER QUESTION !
