Filling void between grip and blank

Hey every one again thanks for all your help!!

Well i'm on a roll so i'll keep it going. Last night I filed out a short cigar grip to fit a swelled butt section on a bamboo rod I'm redoing.

I had to fit this grip from the back as I damaged the previous grip that I had mounted before. All the butt section guides are on and wrapped.

the part of the grip that comes in contact with the swelled butt is fine.

The part of the grip that sits over about an inch of turned down butt section where the reel seat goes has a pretty large gap between blank and grip.

The reel seat stop will cover the hole but what is the best way to fill the void and secure the grip in that spot. I was thinking of using masking tape to take up most of the space and then fill with an epoxy like one would do with a reel seat?

I guess I shoud have filed two different diameter openings in the grip.

Any help will be very welcome. Happy wrapping "John"

Spare the masking tape. Create bushings out of thread, use size D if you have far to go. When you apply the epoxy to the bushing/s, put it on heavy and let it sit for few minutes. "Dry" areas will develop where the epoxy soaks in. Apply more adhesive and seat the grip.

If I understand you right you have a space between your reel seat and cork. If that is correct I would cut a cork ring from another cork ring the size of the gap. Now measure the blank where the gap is and ream the cork ring to that size. Now before going any further mix up your epoxy glue place a liberal amount in the needed space DO NOT USE 5 MINUTE EPOXY. The next step is to cut just one side of the ring. now place the ring in boiling water for about 3 minutes, take the ring out and place a small amount of glue on each side. Gently open the ring just enough to let it slide over the blank, You now take a radiator hose clamp and squeeze the ring together. to clean up use a mixture water and denatured alcohol mixture is 50-50. PS make the ring a little larger so you can sand it down to mach the other rings.
Good luck Bob You can also email me at warren321@yahoo.com

I use masking tape and a polyurethane based glue (glue, not foam). Wind several "collars" of the tape leaving some space between each two, fill the gaps with the glue and seat the grip. The polyurethane glue will expand and fill every void space. The only thing what you're going to do is watch the grip for approx. 30 mins removing the expanding glue with a paper towel on both ends of the grip. After the expanding process stops let the glue harden for a couple of hours.
