I have a few blanks that I have sanded down and would like to finish with CPXtra urethane rod finish. These are mainly small blanks used for drift fishing so I usually don't use a lot of CPXtra to coat them. In the past I opened up a bottle of CPXtra, used about 1/10th of the bottle and, per recommendations, closed the cap on the bottle and stored it upside down (lid on the bottom). However, over about a month, the whole bottle became solid. I know that CPXtra is inexpensive but I don't want to open a bottle, use a tiny bit of it and throw the rest of the bottle away. Have any of you have any experience storing opened bottles of CPXtra? If so then how did you store them? Thank you in advance. Re: CPXtra Urethane Rod Finish Opened Bottle Storage

Thanks Bill for the quick response! I will try that this evening and see how long it will last before solidifying.
Do you store the bottle right sight up or up side down? Does storing the bottle upside down in the fridge help you think? Re: CPXtra Urethane Rod Finish Opened Bottle Storage

These polyurethane finishes are cured by the humidity in the air. Bill is right store them in the fridge. I put mine in a plastic bag in an airtight jar with a dessicant. Stored this way in the fridge it will last a long time. When I use it I pour out what i need in a small container and immediately reseal the rest. Some people will store it in a vacuum sealed bag to remove all the air.

The new cap included with PermaGloss has supposedly fixed the problem there, although I keep mine in a metal paint can with a dispensing screw in the bottom and never have any problems.

"...metal paint can with a dispensing screw in the bottom ..."is the way to go for PermaGloss. I've had my can for over 4 years now and only refill when needed. I bought my can from Mickels Custom Rods a while ago at the Expo. At one time Trondak U-40 was selling them with the 'dispensing screw and an indent marked on the can.' Mine is stored at room temperature. I just used some this morning and I know that stuff is at least a year old. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
