There are many different spiral wrap methods/spacings. Done properly they have no practical adverse impact on casting.

Easiest way, and it casts just fine, is simple spiral. Locate all guides as normal, rotate all but the first guide to 180, put an extra guide half way between 1 and 2 at 90, the lowest guide you can put there.

For casting a rod I would use 0-60-120-180 method. For vertical fishing use the 0-90-180. Thats what works for me. There are several ways to do it. Check the search pages for more info on spacing/guides/positioning. Good luck, MH

Michael,
Just curious.
You say that you use the 0-60-120-180 for casting, but a different spiral for vertical fishing. Why do you wrap the rods differently.

If the one method works well for casting, wouldn't the same wrap work equally well for vertical fishing?

Be safe

Roger, my personal rods are all 0-60-120-180. I build most of my spiral wrapped rods for bottom fishing saltwater. My post was in response to Michaels post. I've built a few with the 0-90-180 for casting and bottom fishing and I've found that the line casts better with a 4 or more guide transition counting the butt guide. Just adding my $0.02 to the thread. Have a great memorial day weekend! MH

I am hopefully soon going to build my Rod Geeks XC 733 acid/spiral wrapped using 0-60-120-180 method.

I assuming this method is best for faster action rods with a stiff butt section while the simple spiral would be best for slower action rods that flex into the handle. Is my assumption correct?

Not really. Almost any good spiral system works equally well with any action blank.
