Hello - looking for suggestion for a blank to use for Zara spook /top water plugs mostly( sometimes soft jerkbaits) for back bay stripers. the fish rarely get over 10lbs in the back. I'm looking at spinning configuration with a 2500 series reel. I've used 7' rods before and it seems like the longer blank can be an issue with the walk the dog for me. Tks in advance. Looking @ MHX price range.

If you prefer a bit shorter than 7', the SJ813-MHX, which is 6'-9" or the SJ783-MHX which is 6'-6" If you prefer a rod blank with just a little more power, a MB783-MHX

Check out American tackle bushido blanks. Great quality. I've caught a lot of stripers on those blanks using bucktails, plugs, plastics and tins. Good luck. MH

I built an MHX SJ783 for a similar purpose as you describe. I wanted the shorter blank to make it easier to flip a shakeyhead out of my boat (somewhat high walls), and also walk-the-dog of mirro-lure top waters for the occasional trips to the coast. I use it primarily for the shakeyhead and it works very well for bass. I found that the length and the tip's action made it very comfortable to walk the dog as well. It's really a nice blank. What I'm not sure about is that your stripers might be a different class of fish than the bass and so it might be wise to get something with a little more power as Bob suggests. The MHX MB843 I have isn't the shorter length you want but that MB line does appear to have more beef than the SJ. The MB has a higher lure rating too so it might be more compatible with the zara spook's weight.
