Rod Blank Opinions

I recently decided I wanted to get into building rods. To start out, I ordered a turnkey kit from Mud Hole with the MHX blank and CRB dryer.

On top of this I ordered two more MHX blanks (one High Mod) to give me a few blanks to practice and get started with.

I have been doing a little bit of research and the names that keep popping up are MHX, Rainshadow, Bushido and Hydra. How do these compare to eachother? Are the MHX blanks any good or are they just popular because of Mud Hole?

I haven't built my first rod yet but as soon as I decide if I like it or not, I am going to sell all of my iRods and buy 6-8 blanks so I want to make sure I am buying a quality blank.

Any opinions or recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks,

I have had only good results with MHX blanks.

They are all really good blanks. I've used mhx mainly just because of all the different variations that have. I've built a couple rain shadow rods and they are great too! I haven't built any hydra or bushido rods yet but I'm surely looking to. My next build for myself will probably be on a bushido blank.

Although I am very new at rod building, it appears from all of my research that MHX seems to be the "Toyota Camry" of rod blanks.......good reliable blanks that won't break the bank.

I have been building rods for a while and I recently got my first MHX. I needed a white blank and well they had one. I always stayed away from them thinking they make low end stuff. Well I am eating a lot of crow now. This blank is super sweet and just as nice as anything else. Rainshadow also make great stuff that's less expensive. Don't get caught up in names, jargon or hype.

MHX blanks are an excellent buy. Not only do they make light and responsive rods but also their life time warranty is great and hassle free.

They all make good blanks. I have experience with bushido and rainshadow and am very happy with their products. Good luck, MH
