Would this make a very fast 6wt, or would it just be a dumb idea?

Marty,
If you can provide some rod specs I can do some calculations to see if it's close.

Material
Length
Butt dia
Tip dia
Blank weight

I would look up the info, but am unfamiliar with the rod manufacturer based on the model number only.

If you are referring to the Mud Hole steelhead blank;
The line weight calculated would be approx. an 8 1/2 weight.
Your use of a 6 weight would under-line the rod by 2 1/2 line sizes.
If you've the arm it should be doable. You can try an 8 weight with GPX taper 5 weight to feel if it's close enough to proceed.
Short casting will be a lot of work, but once you have sufficient line out it will require a stout arm.

Gene

Marty,

did you build the rod? If not, please let me know if you'd be interested in selling the xst1141.

Thanks,
Rick
