Would this make a very fast 6wt, or would it just be a dumb idea? Re: xst1141 built as a fly rod?

Marty,
If you can provide some rod specs I can do some calculations to see if it's close. Material Length Butt dia Tip dia Blank weight I would look up the info, but am unfamiliar with the rod manufacturer based on the model number only. If you are referring to the Mud Hole steelhead blank; The line weight calculated would be approx. an 8 1/2 weight. Your use of a 6 weight would under-line the rod by 2 1/2 line sizes. If you've the arm it should be doable. You can try an 8 weight with GPX taper 5 weight to feel if it's close enough to proceed. Short casting will be a lot of work, but once you have sufficient line out it will require a stout arm. Gene Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/21/2016 10:03AM by Eugene Moore. Marty,
did you build the rod? If not, please let me know if you'd be interested in selling the xst1141. Thanks, Rick Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
