On 6 wt and under rods, anyone use single foot spinning guides for the strippers? Or even larger single foot ceramics?

What benefit could be anticipated by using such stripping guides?

The line doesn't care as it doesn't have to deal with anything other than the guide ring. Not sure you really gain anything by moving to a single foot there as the weight difference is so terribly slight, but if you think a single footer is hardy enough to withstand your intended storage, transport and use, it'll be fine.

I use double foot guides because I like the look on a fly rod. I just started using guides from one of our newer sponsors, Sea-Guide see their web site on the list on the left). The make a variety of guides with a variety of ring materials including silicon Nitride. You can get frames made from stainless steel or titanium. One thing I like about their guides is the double foot guides do not have an arrowhead shape foot on either leg of the guide. I am buying them from Angler's Workshop who has been my supplier for several years.

I have always used double-foot guides for strippers on fly rods, and have made rods fro 2-wt through 12-wt, ranging from 6 1/2 tf through 11 ft. There are a few reasons, tradition being but one of them. The stability of the guide is another, with the stress from the hand action of strippinr, double-hauling, etc. The ability to use different materials for the stripper guide also lends a lot of versatility. I have rods with agate strippers, American Tackle guides with the colored Nano-plasma inserts, and some very basic chrome guides with black inserts. The only time I would consider a single-foot stripper would be when I was going to use single-foot ceramic guides instead of snake guides, and wanted the stripper to match in the series.
