I am looking for advice on an ice fishing rod build. I want to build a 32" walleye rod. what is the best blank to use? I am leaning towards a Thorne Bros. blank. Also, how many guides would you use and what distance should I use for spacing. This is going to be my first build. Thanks in advance for your info. Re: ice fishing rod build

Kris,
The very best blank to use is the Thorne Brothers walleye sweetheart blank. Use 4 guides. I will check my notes and update with the spacing. (On this blank and this length, you could actually use 3 guides as well if you like) Kris, depending on where you are located, I could give you a few pointers. for the price you pay for that blank, there are better options out there. I would check out sportsmensdirect. They have an extreme taper line of ice rods that are very nice for 1/3 of the price. the 31" one is what i use. as for guide spacing i usually use 5 guides on a 32 inch rod. Re: ice fishing rod build

Janns Netcraft has a series of Ice Jigging blanks, I like the 31 inch jigging blank, and the 39 inch blank which is a little stiffer, when someone wants a longer rod, I will usually get the 39 inch blank and cut off some of the blank from the butt end. The blanks are solid, glass/graphite and work very well for jigging, and they will not break the bank. Call them and talk to one of the guys there, they all build.
