i have a 8ft star rod boat rod and i would like to add atleast a foot and a half to the butt. what would be the best and easy way to get this done? Re: making a butt extension help

That much of an extension will place a good deal of stress on the junction of extension to rod blank. The best method would be an over-sleeve of appropriate material and correctly sized tubing. It is not impossible to do this with a piece of properly sized similar tubing inserted into the butt, but then you're putting more stress on a smaller diameter section which brings its own set of problems.
One possible scenario is to cut the rod off at the aft end of the reel seat, then split the seat off and install this onto a new butt section of the desired length. There are a few ferruled reel seats on the market that might allow you to do this with not much muss and fuss. .................. Re: making a butt extension help

Well, sort of. There is a way to do about anything but the particular path you decide to take will depend on what you need to do, how much work is involved and if it will end up doing the job required.
